Senior Accountant- Inventory/Cost
The Senior Accountant specializes in Inventory Accounting to manager and enhance inventory accounting functions. This role is pivotal in maintaining precise inventory records, optimizing inventory levels, and providing key insights for financial decision making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inventory Accounting Oversight: Lead the accounting processes for inventory, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and reconciliation of all inventory transactions. Maintain alignment between inventory records and physical counts.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and analyze inventory-related financial reports, including balance sheets and income statements. Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
- Cost Analysis and Management: Conduct in-depth analysis of inventory costs and margins. Identify trends, provide insights for cost control, and recommend strategies to enhance inventory cost-efficiency.
- Month-End and Year-End Close: Manage and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes for inventory. Ensure all inventory balances and adjustments are processed timely and accurately.
- Audit Preparation and Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. Facilitate external audits by preparing documentation and providing explanations as required.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate and enhance inventory accounting processes. Lead initiatives to streamline practices, improve accuracy, and increase efficiency in inventory management.
- Team Collaboration and Leadership: Provide guidance and support to other areas of the business involved in inventory management. Foster a collaborative environment to ensure team effectiveness and professional development.
- System Management and Optimization: Administer inventory management systems. Collaborate with IT and other departments to address system issues and enhance system functionality.
- Documentation and Policy Maintenance: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of inventory accounting procedures, policies, and controls.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with supply chain, procurement, and sales teams to ensure accurate inventory data and alignment with broader business operations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in accounting software and inventory management systems
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and inventory management practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across various departments.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Education and Licenses
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- 3 + years of relevant accounting or finance experience with a focus on inventory accounting and management. Prior experience in a senior role is preferred.
